Turns Out, Biel Is Just Not Our Princess

Recent news is that Jessica Biel has backed out of playing Wonder Woman in the future live action Justice League America movie. This editor is personally not that upset. I’ve always found Biel a bit too lifeless and lacking for the intensity needed to play the Amazon Princess. Plus she’s just too dang wet-behind-the-ears looking. Four words: Strong, Beautiful, Wise, and Classy.

But, I know that some prominent bloggers are fans, so we’ll take a moment to mourn her passing from the WW running.

And now that we’ve done THAT, who should play Diana instead? I don’t have any solid convictions, but I do have a few leads. The two runners pulling away from the pack at the moment are the ever refined Nicole Kidman, and the delightfully seasoned Lucy Lawless.

Check out this picture of Kidman. Now picture her as a brunette and with longer hair. See it? Absolutely.

One of the key points to Kidman is that she just exudes class. She is a gorgeous, mature woman who is simultaneously strong and feminine, without veering into that ugly “sex for sexy sake” category. To top it all off, she’s a damn fine actor.

Once again, picture Lawless with some wavy raven locks (perhaps with a hint of blue?).

I know what you’re saying, just because Lawless played a warrior princess before, it doesn’t automatically qualify her to play our first lady of the Amazon. This is true. However, after getting a preview of her voicing Diana for the new animated Justice League: The New Frontier, I had to take a second look. Lawless certainly has a handle on strong, fearless, women, and she has a way with a leather bodice and mini skirt that brings a sense of class rather than hooch. To me it’s still to be proven whether she’s got the chops to play Wonder Woman, but her qualifications are certainly tempting.

What do you think, dear readers? Who is the perfect Wonder Woman? Leave a comment or shoot out an email to our editors. After all, she is the Princess of the People. Let the people be heard!

UPDATE: Upon a suggestion I add to the list Cobie Smulders, who has been long rumored to be in the running for the Wonder Woman mantel. Personally I definitely see her Diana-esque qualities, but not being familiar with her acting style (since I don’t watch-or ever want to watch-How I Met Your Mother) I am hesitant to give her the nod of approval simply based on looks alone. That and she is a bit too young. Yet she does have that certain WW something… thoughts?

Nicole Kidman? Really? She looks like she’d break in half if the wind blew the wrong way. The one reason I thought Biel might work was because of her physical badassitude. I’ve never seen Wonder Woman drawn waifish.
