Here is what I’m buying the week of 03-04-09. As a reminder new comic books come out on Wednesdays this list is taken from Graham Cracker Comics.

As per the new policy I am now recommending Trades not new single issues, as people find Trades much more accessible and I feel that trade readers are starting to out number floppy readers.

DC
Batman Cacophony #3
Gotham Gazette Batman Dead #1
Secret Six #7
Solomon Grundy #1
Strange Adventures #1
Superman World of New Krypton #1

KIDS
Supergirl Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade #4

INDEPENDENT
Boys #28
No Hero #4

RECCOMENDATIONS:
Invincible Iron Man TP 1 Five Nightmares: I read this book in floppies and it was totally awesome. Lives up to how bad-ass the movie was. If you liked the film you need to read this.

RECOMMENDATION
Captain America Death Of Captain America Vol 3 TPB: It’s a slow week trade wise, but I have to admit that Captain America has been on fire for the past 3 or 4 years or so. Everything involving the Captain right now is astounding. Pick this up.

Recommendations:

Captain Britain & MI 13 Vol. 1 TPB: I hear nothing but good things about this series, and I hear this from people whose opinion I respect. I haven’t read it yet myself, but since it’s supposed to be so kick ass maybe we all should. Zany and action packed, and also densely packed. It’s a lot of bang for your buck.

Flash Emergency Stop TPB: I’m buying this book this week. I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time. What is it? It’s the trade of Grant Morrison and Mark Millar’s brief tenure on The Flash. What kind of zaniness did Grant Morrison do with Flash? I have no idea, haven’t read it yet, but I am anxious to find out.

The Batman is Dead

As of right now, in DC Comics, Batman (Bruce Wayne) is dead.

What’s disturbing is that most of you don’t know this. There has been no mainstream media coverage as there was in something like The Death of Superman. I could go on about this but really Hibbs at CBR covers it pretty well.

(That link also goes into detail about the Obama Spider-man cover and how Marvel arguably bungled getting it into stores. If you have any interest in publishing, business, comics ordering, or media coverage, I urge you to read the entirety of the link.)

If you need to see the panels of Batman’s corpse check this link. Batman is dead. And the world isn’t imploding. In fact no-one has noticed. Comics are becoming increasingly irrelevant aren’t they? Unless somehow tied to the real world of course.

DC really, seriously, and truly dropped the ball. And now we can only hope Batman will be brought back to life (it’s inevitable really) before DC Comics are no longer published. Which I think might happen soon, bad recession and extremely mismanaged editorial over there right now which doesn’t fill me with hope for the future.

If Batman isn’t brought back before then, he’s dead forever. Think about that.
